Sam Trickett Will Play Big Asia Tournament
Posted by Bradley, April 18, 2012 Team Titan’s Sam Trickett posted the other day that he is “going to Manilla 2mrw for the $1m HK high roller.” He was referring to the Manila Millions HKD $1 million (USD $129,000) Super High Roller event, taking place on Friday as part of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Philippines 2012. The one-day event, to be staged at Resorts World Manila’s Genting Club, will be the biggest poker buy-in event ever played in Asia. “A number of top professionals have already confirmed their attendance. These include Phil Ivey and Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan, along with other big names to be announced soon,” the Asian Poker Tour said in a statement last week. The media has been speculating that Sam will participate in the Manila Millions after he posted recently on his blog: “Next stops are: Macau/Manilla/Monte Carlo/Vegas.” The Asian Poker Tour announced that 25 players have confirmed their participation in the Manila Millions, including Asian pros Elton Tsang – runner-up in last year’s APT Philippines 2011 Main Event – Anson Tsang, and Devan Tang. Poker Portal Asia reported that many well-known poker players are to attend as well, including Johnny Chan, John Juanda, and Joe Hachem. APT Philippines 2012 kicks off tomorrow and will run until April 25th. The Main Event will feature a USD $2,700 buy-in.

What Are You Doing You Dafty Old Cow?
published on 04/15/11 at 6:25 am Today marks the one year anniversary of the passing of a PokerPlasm Legend, “Handsome” Eddie LeFrancois. Known for his crude, unrelenting, and derogatory poker playing style, he was a breath of fresh air in a poker world filled with donkeys, self-appointed experts, and Euro trash. He was always there to listen and give his opinion. If you needed a freeroll to enter to get your mind off the day, he would find one. And his gambling exploits were always good for a laugh. To honor his memory, Eddie’s good friend, RudyRudeth, plans on enjoying a game of late night poker. “Hopefully he’ll be watching over me and I’ll kick arse but its more likely he’ll be watching and yelling ‘what the f#$* are you doing you dafty old cow’!” Ahhh, the memory of Eddie lives on! Here is to you, our good friend! Related posts: Remembering A True Gentleman In The Game Of Life

Larger payouts – online poker as seen by a college student
1 February 2009 The world of online poker has drawn those who are compelled by the online poker competition and the potentially large cash payouts that can be won. Mike Brinker from the US is an online poker success who used his cash winnings to gain independence and survive.Mike has won more than $9,000 playing online poker. Mike turned to online poker when faced with a choice that confronts millions of college students every year: stay in school or get a job.Mike played online poker as well as being drawn to the poker tables in Las Vegas. Additionally he owns a poker table placed in his basement to keep check of his poker skills.During his college years he was a dedicated online poker player as well as being a regular at live games around the campus. He tells ”I played a cash game my sophomore year where I wiped out everyone by the end of the night, Starting with $40, I left with $620.”Essentially it is the social aspects that drew Brinker to the live games, yet he claims that ”the Internet is typically the source for larger payouts.””The thing with online play is not everyone is a broke college student,” Brinker said. ”Some of these guys are $100K a year job holders. He doesn’t care. He’ll buy in for $100, lose it, and bet in for another 100. Those are the best tables to sit at. You get in a hand with someone like that and make $100 in however long it takes to get Ace King over Ace Queen.”Mike is from academic background, both his parents having medical degrees. They did not agree with poker playing. However with $9,000 in his pocket made from online poker, Mike was able to gain his own independence. The popularity of the poker game, specifically No Limit Texas Hold ‘em is apparent in the success of online poker sites and televised poker games. A national survey indicated that almost 10 percent of men aged 18 to 22 gamble online at least once a month.

Previewing the 2011-2012 World Series of Poker Circuit Caesars Atlantic City
March 10 2012, Chad Holloway Related Articles Recapping the 2012 World Series of Poker Circuit Africa Jim Harnden Wins World Series of Poker Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club Main Event Previewing the 2011-2012 World Series of Poker Circuit Caesars Palace Related Tournaments Share It Tags WSOP Circuit, Tournament Results, Poker Tournaments Print March 1 marked the start of the World Series of Poker Circuit’s latest stop, which is happening at Caesars Atlantic City. The 12-ring event stop, which runs through March 12, is among the most anticipated tournament series on the East Coast, as evidenced by attractive numbers in the preliminary events. The stop will culminate in the $1,600 Main Event beginning on March 10, but there were a number of motivating stories that developed throughout the prelims, though none more interesting than that of Brandon Croft, a 31-year-old recreational player from Sumter, South Carolina. Croft’s story began in Event #3: $555 No-Limit Hold’em, which attracted 253 players and created a prize pool of $122,705. Croft managed to navigate the field and captured his first WSOP Circuit ring, not to mention the $30,062 first-place prize. A few days later in Event #5: $555 NLHE, which drew 263 entrants and created a prize pool of $127,555. Croft was at it again. He certainly had momentum and experience as the event was the same buy-in and nearly the same size as his previous win, so watching him capture the gold ring was basically déjà vu. That win made Croft an early favorite, if not a virtual lock, to claim the Caesars Atlantic City Casino Championship, which would qualify him for the National Championship along with the eventual winner of the Main Event.

Titans Again Dominate $200,000 Guaranteed
Posted by Steven, March 5, 2012 Last week, Titan Poker’s players captured the top three places in the $200,000 Guaranteed. Last night, Titan Poker players continued their domination of the event, taking the top two spots. A total of 1,166 players started the Sunday night tournament, the biggest guaranteed prize tournament on Titan Poker’s weekly schedule. The large starting field drove up the prize pool to $233,200 and the action lasted 11 ½ hours. Four Titan Poker players finished in the top ten. Czech player “azaque47” was eliminated in tenth place for a $2005.52 payout and Swedish player “stentaxxiAA” finished in eighth place for a $4,547.40 prize. Going into heads-up play, Canadian player “DosPerros” was slightly ahead of Spanish player “KLAUSS88” in chips. But four hands later, the Canadian pushed pre-flop with pocket fives and “KLAUSS88” was glad to respond by going all-in with his pocket tens. A ten on the flop, accompanied by an ace, and another ace on the turn, completed the full house for the Spanish player and he took the lead in the one-on-one battle. On the final hand of the tournament, “KLAUSS88” was ahead by a 9-1 factor, but his A 6 was slightly behind the A T of the “DosPerros”. However, the A J 6 on the flop gave him the two pairs to knock out the Canadian from the tournament. For his first place finish, “KLAUSS88” received $39,644. Second place was worth $29,150 for “DosPerros”.

Once a month, PokerNews will take an in-depth look at the top 10 players’ results and the recent tournaments that have caused a splash in the standings. A player’s score is comprised of up to 11 tournament results that begin during the calendar year. Of those 11 results, up to six will come from Jan. 1 through June 30, while up to five will be from tournaments starting between July 1 and Dec. 31. Like the Global Poker Index Rankings, all tournaments must have a buy-in of at least $1,500 and contain at least 21 entrants to be eligible in comprising a player’s score.

Relatively Unknown Player Wins WSOP Circuit in Oklahoma
The Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma, has seen some top poker players in action during the 2011-2012 World Series of Poker Circuit. Recently, however, when the last card was dealt, the winner was not one of the well known poker players, but rather an out of work poker player. Abraham Araya, the 44-year-old who became a new poker champion, is currently unemployed, after having been laid off from his job as an airline flight mechanic. His company filed bankruptcy when the economy took a dive, and he was laid off, as were others. He used to work on aircrafts that carried the NBA teams. In the same venue, at Choctaw, Araya had won the T.J. Cloutier Poker Challenge. He took home $83,659 in October 2011 when he won this title. He kept going with poker and won $270,380 in his recent victory at the WSOP Circuit Main Event. Araya noted how this amount of money is equivalent to what he could have earned as an aircraft mechanic over about 4 or 5 years. When asked about his victory soon after he won the final poker hand of the game, he said: “Right now I can’t believe it. It didn’t sink in yet. I can’t tell you how amazing this feeling is.” Araya has been living in the United States for 21 years. He was born in East Africa, and left there to escape war. He has a wife and three children living with him in America. He plans to take his children on a trip to see their grandparents, who are still living in East Africa. He also has a romantic notion, wanting to take his wife for a second honeymoon for their 10th wedding anniversary. Araya had the following to say: “Last night I kind of felt I was going to win because I had the chip lead, but when I eliminated (Derek Browning in sixth) I knew I was going to win.” Related Posts Play the Nation at Sky Poker PokerStars is Now Licensed in Malta Sky Poker 5th Birthday Bonuses Poker Player Wins $175k Bad Beat Jackpot PokerStars and John Duthie Part Ways Share on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace…

Strategy with Kristy: Phil Collins Discusses the WSOP Main Event Final Table
January 12 2012, Kristy Arnett Related Articles Strategy with Kristy: Randal Flowers Discusses Bluffing Preflop Strategy with Kristy Podcast: Ben Wilinofsky Discusses Short-Stack Strategy Strategy with Kristy: Mike Watson Discusses Playing Big Stacks Related Players Share It Tags Tournament Strategy, PokerNews Podcast, PokerNews Strategy, Phil Collins Print This summer, Phil Collins had an incredible and impressive run in the World Series of Poker Main Event to make the November Nine. He came into the final table fourth in chips. When play restarted three months later, many were surprised at Collins’ limping strategy. For this edition of the Strategy with Kristy podcast, brought to you by South Point, Collins discusses his Main Event, interesting spots he encountered, and the thought behind his limping strategy at the final table. Here is a snippet from the interview: I may have $3 million in online winnings, but I have nowhere close to that in my bank account. One of the big concerns I had going into the final table was just how absurd the money jumps were going to be, specifically life money jumps. Even though it looks like all the big money jumps might be up top, they’re still very significant from ninth to sixth. It’s a million-dollar jump. I may never play another final table for the next five years where first is a million dollars, let alone just a difference between ninth and sixth. It was really important to me to do something that was low variance. Even though I wanted to play for the win, and I wanted the title very bad, it was kind of financial suicide for me to go out ninth. It would be pretty unacceptable to know that if you play a tight and solid game and literally just fold to move up, you can. You’re almost guaranteed to do that if you just fold every hand. A couple of people will bust. But, I still wanted to play lots of hands. I’ve limped in the past, so I have a limping range I’ve done online in tournaments. I was somewhat comfortable doing it. It’s one of those strategies that you kind of have to dedicate yourself to if you’re going to do it. You can’t just limp some hands because if they figure out which hands you’re limping, you’re just going to get exploited. You’re going to have to limp everything, and let them know, “I could have aces, or I could have queen-jack.” It puts the ball in their court. I was also playing against players that like to three-bet a lot, specifically Pius Heinz. When he got a lot of chips from Eoghan O’Dea, that was terrible for me. I had a guy on my right with a lot of chips that I was planning on maybe taking some from. He’s a great player, but obviously, I’d rather have O’Dea with chips on my right than Pius on my left. Ben Lamb three-bet a lot too. Sam Holden and Anton Makiievskyi both had re-shove stacks, so if I played an opening game, I was going to be running into re-shoves and three-bets. I was basically unwilling to four-bet shove without the nuts like queens, kings, aces, or ace-king. That means I had to limp because I was never going to four-bet shove light. You can still win the tournament that way, too. If things started working out well for me, like if I would have doubled quickly, coolered someone, or tricked someone really bad with aces, or won a big pot with jack-nine because I limped it, then I might have just completely flipped if I got up to a top-three stack. I might have just raised every hand after that. But, with Pius getting chips, and me just staying short, I just stayed with the limp the rest of the way. I’m not too proud of it, but I actually think it worked. Podcast Powered By Podbean Tune in every week for new episodes of Strategy with Kristy, brought to you by South Point.
